ANGELA HENNESSY, OAKLAND, CA

2024 SECA Art Award Winner and 2025 SF MoMA exhibiting artist Angela Hennessy is an Oakland-based artist represented by Pt.2 Gallery and a survivor of gun violence. She constructs sculptures and installations with everyday domestic labor—washing, wrapping, stitching, knotting, brushing, and braiding. Her work has been shown at McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, Museum of the African Diaspora, Oakland Museum of California, and Pt. 2 Gallery, and is in the collections of the de Young Museum and the Crocker Art Museum. Her audio guides, meditations, and poems have been featured at the Wattis Institute, de Young Museum, and SOMArts Gallery.
Hennessy holds an MFA from California College of the Arts where she teaches courses on contemporary narratives of death. For many years she served as a hospice volunteer and death doula working with families on home funerals, death vigils, and grief rituals. She trained with Final Passages, International End of Life Doula Association, and the Grief Recovery Institute.
Her work has been recognized by San Francisco Artadia, Svane Family Foundation, Joan Mitchell Foundation, Fleishhacker Foundation, and most recently, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art SECA Award. She is on the advisory board of Recompose Seattle and lectures nationally on aesthetic and social practices that mediate the boundary between the living and the dead.

DOM "PAPERBAG" SILVA, WASHINGTON, DC

Dominique Silva, known artistically as PAPERBAG, is a modern visual artist from the Washington D.C. area who is currently traveling across the nation, capturing and creating visuals inspired by the world around him. From photography and painting to video and design, PAPERBAG explores every facet of visual art. He views art as a vital means of self-expression and creativity, believing in using any medium necessary to communicate his message. For PAPERBAG, there are no limitations in the world of art—only possibilities.
His work is driven by a desire to express his truths and create in every way he can. A central theme in his art is encouraging viewers to see life as a collective experience rather than from an individual perspective. In many of his pieces, he paints paper bags over the faces of his subjects to emphasize that the focus is not on any one person, but on the broader message behind each work. Through this visual metaphor, he highlights how the issues and themes he explores impact all of us.

ANDRÉ RENAY, BAY AREA, CA

André Renay, a San Francisco native with Caribbean roots, draws on the rich cultural influences of his upbringing to fuel his art. Raised by a Grenadian mother and a hardworking father, Renay found painting to be a powerful outlet for emotional expression—his family’s garage became a sanctuary where feelings took shape in color and form.
Blending the warmth of his Caribbean heritage with the energy of San Francisco, his work reflects a dynamic, multifaceted identity.
Embracing spontaneity, Renay never plans his pieces, allowing each one to unfold naturally—mirroring the unpredictability of life itself. Through each stroke, he explores the intersection of personal experience and cultural legacy, inviting viewers into the evolving landscapes of his inner world.

DOMINIQUE BIRDSONG, LOS ANGELES, CA

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Dominique Birdsong was initially drawn to veterinary sciences, growing up with the idea that she'd become a veterinarian. However, life is filled with many uncertainties that are beyond one's control.
These uncertainties led her to embrace art as both a desire and a necessity. She completed her BA at Humboldt State University, and there, she made the decision that becoming an artist would be her ultimate pursuit. This realization and desire propelled Birdsong to pursue a Master of Fine Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute receiving an MFA in 2021.

DARNELL "SOLO" KIRKWOOD, KANSAS CITY, MO

Darnell “Solo the Artist” Kirkwood is a LA based multidisciplinary artist and actor that was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. As an artist, Solo has exhibited in exhibitions in LA, South FL and Kansas City. Solo collaborated with Sunchip’s with his creation of “Divine Connections.” Commissioned by SunChips during their ArtSeen activation for Art Basel Miami to be featured on their bags of Garden Salsa flavor chips.
Solo harnesses his storytelling experience as an actor to cultivate the creative superpowers of imagination, breathing life into passionate narratives through abstract layers of messaging to tell their own stories. His art stems from being a conduit for capturing and documenting eternal energy transmitted through divine dialogues, enhancing an enduring sense of well-being. These conversations are intentionally continued through a language of communication through glyphs created by Solo that encourages an interactive and immersive experience between the artist and the viewer. His abstract intentional and figurative artifacts are layered with the energy of a multilayer language of wisdom that he calls “F.E.E.L.” A process the artist describes as, “Creating art while being a vessel of (F)aith to possess the (E)nergy of (E)mpowerment through (L)ove.
The emotional energy evoked by his art ignites a natural inclination to explore profound revelations and engage in healthy uncomfortable conversations about the world we continue to shape. It is his mission to create artifacts and spaces that embody a sense of well-being, serving as a dynamic bridge to foster unity and universal understanding within communities. Experiencing his art firsthand unveils the profound depths, stories, and intricacies of the world he intimately knows and beautifully portrays. Each piece is derived from and dedicated to the arduous journeys undertaken by both dreamers and visionaries against all odds.
